Purdue’s next game is a home game against Indiana State. So, it is time for another SAD prediction because no one gets sycamore SAD predictions?
Let that one marinate.
History
Purdue and Indiana State have played each other five times since 1926. All five games were played in West Lafayette and Purdue won all of them. Now for the arbitrary:
- If you look at Purdue’s scores in chronological order, the scores form a palindrome:
38 20 60 20 38 - In three of the games, Indiana Stated ended with 14 points.
- Two of the games had a final score of 20-14.
Not sure I can do anything with this info other then make a guess that Purdue will end the game with 20 points since they have done so every other year against Indiana State.
Give Me a Second
In their last 10 seasons, Indiana State is 2-8 in their second week games while Purdue is 6-4 in their second week games. Of these second week games, Purdue and Indiana State have played each other twice; Indiana State lost both times with a score of 14.
A Second more
There have been two seasons where Purdue played both Indiana State and Penn State in the same season: 2013 and 2006. In both of those seasons, Purdue lost to Penn State but won against Indiana State. In 2006, Purdue beat Indiana State 60-35. That was Purdue’s first game of the season.
However, in 2013, Indiana State was Purdue’s second opponent of the season (Purdue did not play Penn State until November) and they only won by 6 points with a final score of 20-14.
Prediction
Even when cherry picking stats, it appears that this is not a question of whether Purdue will win. It is a question of how many points will Purdue win by. Current odds have Purdue at +36.5 which suggests a beat down.
Purdue will win. If I dare to get more specific, Purdue will win by 17 points or less. But I do not dare.
