SAD Prediction: Purdue vs Minnesota

Two points kept me from a 4-0 prediction record. All for the better though because Purdue now has two wins on the season. If it weren’t for my asinine methods, I would say that Purdue will win at least 7 games this season.

But here I am with these asinine methods.

History

The Purdue Boilermakers and Minnesota Gophers have played each other a total of 77 times. Minnesota has won 41 of those games, Purdue has won 33, and they have tied three times.

  • Purdue has lost the last four games and their longest losing streak is four games. In addition to the current streak, Purdue had a four-game losing streak from 2012 to 2016.
  • The last time Purdue won an away game was in 2007. Purdue’s win-loss record went to 4-0 with the win and Minnesota’s dropped to 1-3.
  • In six of the last 10 games, Purdue has scored over 30 points. In four of those 30-point games, Purdue scored exactly 31 points.
  • In all September away games against Minnesota, Purdue is 3-2

Big Ten Opener

This game is Purdue’s first Big Ten game of the season. In the last 10 seasons, Purdue is 2-8 in their Big Ten opening games. In 2019, Minnesota was their first Big Ten opponent and Purdue lost that game 31-38.

This is Minnesota’s second Big Ten game of the season (they beat Michigan State last week by 27 points). In the last 10 seasons, when playing their second Big Ten opponent of the season, Minnesota is 4-6. This includes a loss to Purdue in 2017

Prediction

Minnesota wins. Purdue’s 3-2 record against Minnesota in September away games (so specific) almost carried my prediction. But the fact that Purdue has not won in Minneapolis since 2007 ruined everything.
